During our two week trip to Portugal we decided to visit Porto as it wasn’t too far away from where we stayed. We spent two days in the city which is not much, but you can still see a lot.
We visited the Torre dos Clérigos, the biggest church tower of Portugal, and I can tell you, the view from up there is stunning! It’s definitely worth the 3 euros and the 220 steps up there. You can see a lot of other churches in Porto as well, many of which have those beautiful blue tiles. The station Sao Bento has them, too, and it looked so nice, really ^_^
After having visited all the sights we wanted to see we spontaeously decided to walk down to the promenade in the evening to have some food and drinks. We had trouble finding the way, but we finally made it down there. Yay 😀 I would definitely recommend to visit the promenade. You can find many sweet little restaurants there, there’s always some music playing and the view on the Duoro river and the bridge Ponte Dom Luís is incredible. It’s actually exactly the subject you can see on many postcards.
My personal highlight was the Livraria Lello, the library which is said to having inspired J.K. Rowling to write the Harry Potter novels. It’s not hard to imagine this is true when you enter it. It actually looks like a room in Hogwarts and even though you may have to wait in a queue for quite some time (we were lucky with only 30 minutes) it’s so worth it, especially for all the Harry Potter fans out there![ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”3″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_slideshow” gallery_width=”2000″ gallery_height=”1000″ cycle_effect=”blindX” cycle_interval=”10″ show_thumbnail_link=”0″ thumbnail_link_text=”Some impressions:” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]
